Is Frank's Sign Associated With Coronary Artery Disease?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 Jun 2017
Question: I am a 40 year old female, 200 lbs, with no history of heart problems. I have been diagnosed with the connective tissue disorder Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and have a Chiari I brain stem malformation. I had a pulmonary embolism after the birth if my son ten years ago but genetic testing was done and it was determined to be a "fluke". At the time of the PE I had an normal echocardiogram and wore a holter monitor for 72 hours which had normal results. I have a yearly health screening done through my husband's employer with a full panel of blood tests and other than borderline low calmium and borderline low HDL a few times everything has been in normal range. I have had several EKG's over the past few years because of the antidepressant I take for anxiety and they have been normal. I have never had a stress test. I write because I have read two different articles recently mentioning earlobe creases (Frank's sign) as a sign/warning of either coronary artery disease or stroke. I have this on both ears and they only developed over the last several years. Is this something I should be concerned about? My 67 yr old mother has identical creases and claims she didn't have them when she was young, but she has no known heart issues. The only history if heart issues in my family was my maternal grandfather dying of a suspected heart attack at 81. Should I see my doctor for this? I've looked up more online and am a little panicked at the different things I've read.

Brief Answer:
Just relax there is nothing to panic for

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma'am

After going through all the medical details provided by you I would like to tell you that there is nothing you should worry for just because you have a diagonal ear lobe crease (ELC).

This is the problem with information on Internet, we all refer to Internet to find out answers to our questions but only few of us know what source of information we should rely on, and that's very important. Otherwise you will always be in doubt.

I would like to advice you to browse through ncbi website for reference as it's a reliable authority.

I would also like to tell you that there has been no significant co relation found between ELC and coronary artery disease. Also you don't have any kind of symptoms.

You should not unnecessarily worry for this as it will ultimately increase your anxiety making your mood disorder even worse.

If still you won't feel satisfied then you can go for TMT under medical supervision.

I hope this information will answer your query.

Kind Regards
