Is HIV 4th Generation Duo Test Done 29 Days Post Exposure Conclusive?

Question: Doctor,
First off, thank you for your service! I think it is terrfiic. Now, on to my issue. I am a female who recently made a huuuge mistake that was out of character for me. I was drunk and had unprotected sex with with a stranger. During the act, he ejaculated inside me. Now, 29 days after the incident I took the duo test. It was negative. I was so happy! But afterwards I started thinking about some things I remembered from health class. Namely, that sperm can live up to five days in a woman. What I am wondering is this: 1) Is the duo test conclusive from the date of the sex act or from the date that the sperm may die inside me? For example, I had sex with the guy on November 17 and took the duo test on December 16. This is 29 days from the encounter, but 24 days from when his speem may have died inside me. Could I get HIV from the sperm that were still alive inside me even if I didn't from the sex? Do I need to take test from the date the sperm died? Is a duo test from 24 days worth anything? Should I test again? I am freaking out with all these thoughts! Any help would be so appreciated!

Brief Answer:
not conclusive

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the day you had sex is important. How long the sperm lives is irrelevant. Body fluids that contain HIV may transmit the virus to another person through mucosal surfaces particularly if there are any abrasions. The sperm's lifespan is important regarding the risk for pregnancy only.

The duo test is not conclusive at day 29. At least 6 weeks are required for it and measuring the antibodies again in 3 months is also recommended (just in case). A negative test 29 days after the event means that you're probably negative. The 6 weeks time is required to decrease the risk of false negatives.

With current data there is no reason to freak out. You should just be more careful in the future!

Kind Regards!
