Is HIV 4th Generation Test Done 3 Months Post Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Apr 2017
Question: Hello!
new to this so bare with me! any who, i was curious as to why some doctors say 12 weeks is conclusive for an HIV test and than others tell you 6 months? i have had one at 12 weeks. post any exposure! test was called : hiv screen 4th generation wrfx. came out negative! i was ready to move on after the crazyness but reading doctors says 6 months has really caused me some anxiety. My risk was high risk. My EX cheated on me and unfortunately gave me and sti ( how i found out he was cheating) now im not sure how many women he slept with but i know it was at least a couple.... and he was not using condoms with them or myself....

so what are my chances of me turning pos after my 12 week test? can i be confident that ill be truly neg? i dont have an immune prob, nor have i been treated for hep c or cancer!

-- also do i need to test out longer due to sti? i have been treated!

please help! thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
HIV Negative.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. Welcome to health care magic.
I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.I have gone through the details.

The chances of transmission of HIV by unprotected intercourse with a HIV positive person is 1/200 to 1/1000. It is low. He may be Negative too.
HIV Antibodies are formed by 2-6 weeks after risk exposure. The Antibodies tests including the 4th generation tests are Conclusive 3 months post exposure.
If the 4th generation test is negative after 3 months exposure, then it is Conclusive. You can allay fears of HIV totally. There is no need for further HIV tests even if you had STI.

You can get back for any clarification.
