Question: I see that new HEP C drugs have been approved by the FDA. To your knowledge are any of them more affordable than Havoni which is $1000. per pill. Are any of them worth considering?

Please let me know the HCV genotype of your husband.

Harvoni contains a combination of ledipasvir and sofosbuvir and these are .FDA-approved new protease inhibitors and are administered as per United Kingdom and French consensus guidelines in the treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C infection.

PEG IFN plus ribavirin represents the foundation of treatment for all HCV genotypes; patients infected with genotype 1 should also receive a protease inhibitor (telaprevir or boceprevir).
HCV genotype 4: needs 48 weeks of PEG IFN–ribavirin therapy.
HCV genotypes 2 and 3: 24 weeks of therapy of PEG IFN-α2a 180 μg weekly plus ribavirin 800 mg/d is recommended.These are all standard therapies of Chronic Hepatitis C ijjnfection.
