Brief Answer:
Herbolax is safe to be given. Increase dietary fiber intake.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through your query. Incidentally, constipation in children has become a very frequently encountered problem these days. The primary reason for the same is lack of adequate play as well as the lack of adequate amounts of fiber containing foods in diet.

Going through the following link should help:

The mainstay of treatment would be to increase the total dietary fiber consumption. Herbolax contains dietary fiber supplements and hence can be given safely. Wheat, corn, and rice XXXXXXX are high in insoluble fiber, which helps prevent constipation. XXXXXXX can be sprinkled into his favorite foods, from hot cereal and pancakes to muffins and cookies. Many popular high-fiber cereals and bars are also packed with XXXXXXX Beans really are the magical fruit. Isabgol (psyllium husk) or senna can also be given as fiber supplements.

Make sure that he drinks plenty of water and goes to pass stool at a regular time every day (irrespective of whether he feels an urge to pass). This will demote stool holding habits and would promote regular bowel habits.

Let me know if I could help further.

Brief Answer:
I have already mentioned a list of fiber rich food items.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Please refer to the previous answer given by me. I had already detailed the list of fiber rich food items.

I would request you not to request for any 'good tonics' to increase appetite. Such a thing does not exist and if you ask for such a thing, without wasting words a doctor will give a vitamin supplement. Vitamin supplements are useless unless there are specific deficiency symptoms. They would simply be flushed out with urine.

Do not force feed your child. Wait for the child to feel hungry and ask for food (accept the gap in between).

Brief Answer:
Diet can be planned as per convenience.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks again for writing back. The outer layer of the grain is known as XXXXXXX Although brown rice contains more fibres, that is not what I had been talking about. Visiting the following link will give you an idea on XXXXXXX sprinkes.

If similar products are not available from the local store, ensure that other food sources are the source of fibre. The following link will guide you about the food items:
http://greatist.com/health/surprising-high-fiber-foods

A child of 4-8 years age needs a daily intake of 25g dietary fibres. A healthy dietary pattern that emphasizes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, poultry, fish, legumes, nontropical vegetable oils and nuts, while limiting sodium, sweets, sugar-sweetened beverages, and red meats.
