Is Hydrocodone Advisable For Severe Pain Due To Pinched Nerve?

Question: My wife has a pinched nerve causing pain in her shoulder and arm. Her pain Dr. prescribed gabypentin but so far no relief. Can she also take hydrocodone that had been prescribed previously?
