Is IUI Safe In Presence Of HSV-2 Infection?

IUI is safe in presence of HSV 2 infection.Neonatal transmission unlikely
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Very well IUI can be done to make his partner pregnant without transmitting HSV 2 infection.
1.Viral shedding would not be there always. It would be around the days of recurrence.
2. Virus usually not present in the body fluids like semen (unlike HIV), present in the Dorsal root nerve ganglions and periodically released along the nerve endings through skin and mucus membrane.
3. During the process of IUI, the semen is washed with appropriate fluids which can remove virus present, if any.
So it is safer to have IUI as a mode of conception in the presence of HSV 2 infection.

Aciclovir and Famciclovir are the alternatives for valcyclovir
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Suppressive therapy usually recommended for 6- 12 months. Not life long. If necessary it can be repeated. Lifelong usage of condoms is not advised.
We can not predict the recurrence how long it will be active. It varies from person to person.
You asked for alternative drug for Valcyclovir. At the same time you wrote that you are on Acylovir suppressive therapy. Acyclovir and Famcylovir are the alternative drugs for Valcyclovir.
