Is Ketoconazole Advisable For Children?

Question: HI. I have an 11 year old that was prescribed ketoconazole 2% cream for a ringworm infection. I saw where the cream is not evaluated for use in children less than 12 years old. I am just checking the make sure that this cream is safe to use since she is not 12 yet. She only has one spot on her back. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Do not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM
I understand your concerns but don't worry. Ketoconazole is commonly used by all pediatricians for fungal infection of skin (Tinea) and is overall a safe drug to use. Sometimes it may lead to redness, itching, stinging, burning etc.
So, I would recommend you to go for safer alternatives such as clotrimazole 1% in case she develops any of the above side effects.
Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care
