Is LDA Therapy Effective For Airborne And Food Allergies?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Aug 2016
Question: I'm looking into a specific allergy treatment called low-dose allergen, or LDA, where you get one shot every two months for up to 18 injections. It's supposed to address airborne/seasonal and food allergies. I'm looking for some outside opinions on this. There is only one doctor in my area who offers it. I want to know if it's safe and effective, and if it possibly has any serious side effects.

Brief Answer:
Quite safe and effective though extensive research isnt available.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.

Low dose antigen therapy is actually a limited mode of treatment. There are no extensive studies and big trials on this mode of therapy but there are some significant researches regarding it which I would mention.

LDA is not FDA approved for insect stings and other many types if allergies but for food ..pollen and other airborne allergies it has showed much afficacy. In a trial it did show about 10 times better results than the patients who were on simple allergy meds.

Does it have dangerous side effects? it's a matter of great debate and controversy as there are no big trials on it and debate is nust theory based but in few small but well organized trials it shows to be quite safe. In a survey done in the USA which included 3-5 people it proved to be 74% effective and caused no real dangerous side effects.

In my opinion you can pursue this treatment option without expecting any life threatening adverse effect.

I hope this answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it.
