Is Lactogen A Better Alternate For Breastfeeding?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jan 2016
Question: Hello Doctor,

God gifted me twin baby boys on 27th of last month. Both have weight on birth time 2.5kg and 2.25kg. Doctors started Lactogen 1 with mother feed. I want to know that is Lactogen is better alternate with mother feeding or Similac Advance Stage 1. Because both are not satisfied with mother feed. So we have to use Lactogen 1 with Glass bottle feed. Suggest me to improve their health, weight and feeding.

Their Bilirubin was lastly 14.2 and 12.6. After that not revised. Is there need to recheck the bilirubin level.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
You may start with Enfamil Premium, Nan Pro or Similac Advance

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Congratulations xxxxxxxxxxx

I understand your concerns but don't worry. Breastfeeding is best for any baby for at least 6 months. For twins we suggest that you may give one side breast milk for each baby so that both of them grow well and get all the nutrition. You may increase your milk secretion by taking dates, oats, red lentils, almonds, cashews, fenugreek, fennel seeds, milk etc. Ensure adequate rest and good hydration with minimal stress.

In case the feeds are still inadequate, then you may take leptaden available OTC.

If required the give Enfamil premium, Nan Pro or Similac advance ( all are good and choice depends upon your baby's acceptance).

There is no need for any further tests for bilirubin unless the skin of babies appear yellow. The previous reports are suggestive of physiological jaundice which improves spontaneously in most babies.

Hopefully it will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.

Take care
