Is Levaquin The Right Medicine For Irritation During Urination?
Question: I am 41. Male. I recently had difficulty fully voiding my bladder after urinating. I developed irritation in my urinary tract, then an oozing discharge. I went to a Target clinic (it was a weekend), gave a urine sample, and was prescribed levaquin. After four days on levaquin I feel markedly better - no more itching, no more oozing. But the clinic called me today to say my urine tested negative and I should stop taking the levaquin. This seems silly to me. Unfortunately I am out of town and unable to see my Primary Care physician until next Monday at the earliest - at which point I would have finished the prescription. I do intend to talk to my Primary about the voiding issue (which perhaps has been exacerbated by a great deal of travel in which I am sitting, which may irritate my prostate), but I am confused about whether I should continue to take the antibiotic - which clearly seems to have helped.
Brief Answer:
You should continue to take the antibiotic.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXX,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
In my opinion you should take all antibiotic you were prescribed because as you wrote it helps you and the second thing is that not taking the full course of antibiotic make bacteria resistant to this antibiotic in the future so as a result it makes bacterial infections harder to treat.
Your urine test is negative however you should be checked for STD's and have urine culture because STD's may cause your symptoms.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
