Is Melaglow Effective In Treatment Of Pigmentation On The Skin?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: I have pigmentation on the skin above the upper lip. Doctor has suggested Melaglow cream and he has asked me to apply for an hour in the night and then to wash it off. I have been using epifager cream from the past three months. Can I discontinue that and start using melaglow. How effective would melaglow be.Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Yes do start Melaglow & wait 2-3 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi there XXXXXXX
It is not immediately clear to me how long this pigmentation has persisted.
You seem to suggest you have tried this epifager cream for 3 mths sans effect. If so, no harm in stopping this & shifting to the suggested melaglow cream.
The effectiveness or not would depend on a multitude of factors not least if this cream contains hydroquinone; are you allergic to hydroquinone & the reason for the pigmentation developing in the first place.
It is a nigh impossible task in pigmentary issues to predict outcome & if so the duration it would take to resolve but I would hazard a guess in that if you do not see improvement in 2-3 weeks, then please do take a second opinion. Each person has hi/her personal opinion but I am not sure how applying it for 1 hour specifically at night will help. I routinely ask my patients' to keep these depigmenting agents on for at least 3-4 hrs before sleeping for best contact & effect. Then again a chemical peel may suit you better again depending on the reason & duration & 'depth' of the pigmentation & your expectations therof.
Still, I am a firm believer that you should follow the advice of the doctor you have been to & don't second guess for now.
If close to XXXXXXX you are most welcome to pop in after 2-3 weeks (only if the treatment has not helped you) to XXXXXXX Hospital for a consult & we could re-examine the issue.
Good Luck & wish you a clear complexion soon.

Thanks for the reply doctor. I have this pigmentation for the past 4-5 months. Epifager cream was effective but the patch still exists and is brown in color. I had tried chemical peel before applying epifager but I got skin allergy in the form of rash and so I had to discontinue the peeling. Also, please let me know after washing off melaglow can I apply moisturizer and sleep.I have a dusky complexion and I apply olay sunscreen and maybelline make up foundation in the morning. Can I continue applying makeup in the morning after starting the melaglow regimen at night.

Go ahead with the regime you have in mind

Detailed Answer:
Hey again.
Yes you can to my mind.
But as I state, best double check with the doc who prescribed the melaglow regimen.
Cheers.

My friend has been using epifager cream from the past three months for skin lightening and the results are really good. As mentioned in the pack it is a daily cream. So she wants to know if this cream can be used everyday or should one discontinue use after a particular period of time. The ingredients in epifager are Undecylenoyl Phenylalanin and Sodium palmitoyl proline. Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Yes your friend may continue with the same.

Detailed Answer:
Hmmm....now I wonder if your friend is as pretty as you to warranty a double-consult ? ;-) (just kidding)
Again, from the ingredients you describe, it seems feasible to be used on a long term basis.
However, I have an old school mentality when it comes to looks & beauty: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" ...in other words, if it has helped her & done the job, perhaps best not to overdo it.
But for best results again, let her take the medication & herself to a dermatologist nearest her. If in XXXXXXX region, she is most welcome too to come across to XXXXXXX Hospital, off XXXXXXX road.
Good Luck & wish you both a healthy complexion.
