Question: My sgpt is 721 sgpt is 200 Iam diabete .is metformin is safe

metformin is safe. there is a small risk of developing lactic acidosis especially if you concomitantly use alcohol.
you need to investigate the cause of raised liver enzymes too.( in case not already investigated)

in case your ultrasound is normal the you need to be tested further for hepatitis B and C along with ANA.
do you consume alcohol if yes then the liver enzymes could be because of alcohol ( if all the above tests are negative)

I would suggest to get ANA test along with tests for hepatitis A and E.
As high enzymes could be because of acute hepatitis A or E in which case they should normalize within 4 weeks.
In case your enzymes (SGOT and SGOT)are persistently high after 4 weeks or if the above tests are negative then you need to consult a gastroenterologist to evaluate the cause of liver disease
