Is Mirena Still Safe For Use In Women Who Have Not Yet Given Birth?
Question: My daughter is 17 and she wants to get the XXXXXXX IUD 4 weeks before going to college across the country for the first time. She does not want to take the pill because of the side effects but I see there are many from this IUD as well. she has an eating disorder which is managed but I am concerned now in reading the reviews the hormones could be an issue as well
Brief Answer:
Well tolerated
Detailed Answer:
Hello man, thanks for trusting health care magic.
It is really appreciable that you are so active and open with your girl about her adolescent issues.
Hormonal IUD is a really safe and good option and she can very well go ahead with it.
As far as side effects are concerned all methods of contraception have one or the other bad effects and are usually minor, easily manageable and not present in all users.
The most common problem with hormonal IUD is erratic menstrual pattern in initial months, mood swings and breast soreness.
But it has a very good contraceptive cover with minimal failure rates amongst all the methods.
All the best
