THE QUESTION IS THAT HIS PLATELET COUNT HAS GONE UP SUBSTANTIALLY AND THAT IS WORRYING US .WANTED TO KNOW THE CAUSE AND RISK OF HAVING SUCH A HIGH PLATELET COUNT.WHAT SHOULD THE TREATMENT BE.WHETHER THE MEDCINES GIVEN BY THE PSYCHIATRIST HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE RISE OF THE PLATELET COUNT.
Brief Answer:
It is common in post operative period
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back to healthcaremagic.
None of the medicine prescribed by psychiatrist are associated with thrombocytosis (increased number of platelets). Having said this the increased number of platelets may be found in post operative period in any patient.
If his other blood parameters are normal (particularly PT and INR) there is nothing to worry. They suppose to last for few weeks and reversible without any intervention.
There is also possibility of some infection which may be responsible for reactive thrombocytosis.
Please check the platelets after one week again. If it continues to be high seek consultation with your doctor to determine the cause.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
Thanks and Regards
