Is Normet Syrup Advisable For Loose Motion In A Child?
Get the stool tested. Let me know if the baby is exclusively breast fed
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Let me tell you that for a baby of this age, it is normal to pass stool several times a day or even after each feed. Alternatively the child may pass stool once in 10 days and that is normal too. Unless the stool is hard and pellet like, you need not grow concerned. It is also normal to pass green stool or a combination of yellow stool. Prior to answering your question I need to ask you whether the child is exclusively breast fed or whether she is formula fed. Only then I will be able to tell if the colour is a cause for concern. If she is on breast milk you have no reason to worry. If she is on formula feeds you need to get her stool tested (routine microscopy) to check for infection. Unless there is blood in stool antibiotics like Normet are usually not needed. I would therefore not suggest you not to give Normet to the child. In any case, to be able to suggest the right dose I would need to know the body weight of the child.
I will await your response.

30mg/dose is the right dose for your child
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back and for attaching the report. The stool report indicates presence of pus cells +++ indicating presence of infection. It would be a good idea to give Normet Syrup (100mg/5ml) 3ml thrice daily [30mg/dose]. You would have to check the concentration in case of Normet Drops. The requisite dose for your child is 30mg/dose. Check with your pediatrician.
Other than this, I would insist on exclusive breast feeding. Mother's breast milk is produced on the demand of the baby. Hungrier the baby, more vigorous is the suck. More is the suck, more is the amount of breast milk produced. Giving formula automatically reduces the demand of the baby and thereby the production of breast milk. All you need to do is to switch back to exclusive breast feeding and the production will increase automatically. All you need to do is to monitor the urine output. If the frequency is more than 6 times in 24 hours, you would know that the amount of feeding is adequate. If the amount of passage of urine is less or if the child is lethargic you would need to take the child to a doctor without delay.

5ml twice daily
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. The mentioned syrup is not same as Normet Drops. However, the same can be given. 5ml twice daily is to be given for 5 days.
You can ignore the gray color of stool but for a proper answer I would need to know whether the child is exclusively breast fed. If not, switching back to breast milk should resolve the problem. Details already provided in last communication.
