Is Novelon Suggestible For Prolonged Period Bleeding?

Question: My daughter is 13 years 9 months old (she will be 14 in October). She had her first period when she was 11 years and 9 months old. Her previous period occured in May 2014 after a gap of 2 months. During her current period, she is having moderate flow even after 15 days. After 8-9 days, a gynic doctor prescribed "Pause-MF" tablets (1 per day) to stop the flow. But even after consuming 4-5 tablets, flow continued.

Hence, today we consulted a lady gynic doctor due to her prolonged period. She did her sonography and told us that the lining is pretty thick. She has prescribed her to take Novelon tablet for 3 months 21 days each month.

I read that Novelon is a contraceptive. Is this the proper treatment for her at the age of 13?

I'm really afraid of giving her such contraceptive tablets at this teen age. Will this tablet cause any unwanted side effects such as weight gain, hormonal changes, irregular periods in future etc.? Will this tablet stop prolonged flow?

This medication causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining.
Widely used as oral contraceptive, can also be used for other indications to balance the hormone level.
It has been used for many years to treat endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, and menstruation-associated symptoms.
So do not worry, there are many medicines which can be used for multiple purpose for example tab. cetrizine can be used for itching, allergic rhinitis, urticaria etc.
No side effects if taken as advised by doctor.
