Is PSA Level Of 6.98 A Cause For Concern?

Question: I am 74, in good health, but show a PSA of 6.98. It has slowly been increasing from 3 over the last 5 years. Also, my WBC has been creeping up from about 10 to now 14. I have no symptoms, but wonder if I need to see a urologist. My physician did a prostate exam today and says it was slightly enlarged, but no bumps or soft spots. Should I go to a hemotologist right away? He is going to do another blood lab in three months to see what is happening then.
Brief Answer:
Let’s get a control done in 3months before proceeding!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.
It is reasonable to get a control done in 3months. If these findings are confirmed: Rising PSA, rising WBC, etc., at that time we will have solid evidence to investigate fully what’s going on.
Enlarged prostate for someone at this age is quite a usual finding, and with no bumps/soft spots means any serious pathology is quite unlikely.
In all, let’s see the trend in 3months and carry on from there.
I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
