Is PSA Test Advisable For An Elderly Person?
Question: Hi - At what age do Dr's normally suggest a PSA test. I have had a couple suggest to do now (age 44) yet on the web it seems to be at 50. Is it just down to each Dr's preference?

PSA test is generally advised after the age of 50 years which is the age when incidences of cancer of the Prostate are on rise .However the decision regarding need for doing PSA test is taken by a concerned Urologist on clinical symptoms and presence of hard nodule on prostate palpable on Digital Rectal Examination .

but he did the DRE and said the prostrate was normal. He also said that there was no rush for the PSA and I should do it over the coming months?

So do some dr's just suggest you do it younger than 50?
