Is PSA Value Of 6.2 A Cause For Concern?
Question: After many years of normal PSA readings, my reading i got today was 6.2. i am 60 years old. My doctor is going to put me on a week of antibiotics to see if that will help what might be an inflammation only. Should i panic over this reading
Brief Answer:
Please do not wait and consult urologist.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Inflammation can be the case. However it is not a good idea to give antibiotics and wait. Please note that such PSA level can be a sign of prostate cancer. This should not scary your or cause panic. This cancer is treatable in most of the cases. But it has to be detected (or ruled out).
That is why I suggest you to consult urologist and have transrectal ultrasound and biopsy considered. This is the best you can do at this point.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
