Is Saline Spray Safe To Use For Nose Bleeding?
I have bloody discharge from my left nostril with some left sinus pain and a cough and slight fever (38.4 degrees C). I have been prescribed ciprofloxacin for 7 days.
For the discharge, can I use saline spray or will that make the problem by providing a moist environment where bacteria might grow? Instead of broad spectrum ciprofloxacin, could I try an antibiotic like keflex first? Does blood discharge definitely indicate infection?
Thankyou.
Blood discharge not only indicate infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I have gone through your question and understand your worry and concern; and I would like to inform that blood discharge not indicate only the infection but it may be also due to the trauma of the nose, finger pricking of the nose, hypertension, benign and malignant tumor of the nose and sinuses.
You can use saline spray but in your condition according to my best of knowledge I suggest you Botroclot (Aqueous solution of Haemocoagulase isolated from Bothrops atrox) nasal drop 2 drops five times a day and liquid paraffin nasal drop 2 drops five times a day. I am not sure if this is available in your location. You may check with your pharmacist.
Further for such nasal infection, I prefer Azithromycin antibiotic instead the ciprofloxacin or keflex. And for better management either you consult with ENT specialist if not consult or go through the below mentioned investigations.
1. Anterior and posterior rhinoscopy.
2. X Ray paranasal sinuses or CT scan paranasal sinuses.
3. Blood pressure management.
4. Bleeding profile.
