Is Stresnil Or Trika Best For Insomnia?
I am 75 year old man. I take medicines for diabetes, bp, thyroid and bph. All are under control. But I am not able to get sleep fully during nights for the last 2 to 3 years. I sleep only for about 4 to 5 hours. My friend told me to try Stressnil 0.25 mg .I tried 1/2 of it every day for the past one month .I.e. 0.12mg Now .I am able to sleep for 6 hours. Please advise me whether i can continue taking this 0.12 mg instead of full tablet of 0.25 mg? Will there be any harm if i continue it every day? On the other hand i get sleep for 6 hrs if i take 0.25 mg Trika full tablet .Which is better?Kindly suggest
It is better if you avoid stressnil and trika both
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
I do not recommend using either stressnil or trika at the age of 75. It may cause cognitive impairment thus leading to problem in remembering facts and memory loss.
In addition a high rate of fall is reported with use of trika as well as stressnil and a single fall can have devastating effects in later part of life. I routinely encounter patients with unregulated medication intake and fall and fractures.
Although 4-5 hours of sleep at 75 years of age is quite near normal and any medication should be avoided as far as possible.
In case you feel there is a problem see a doctor in your city as he will look on all possible positive as well as negative factors.
I like to make it clear that stressnil contains melatonin and 0.25 mg alprazolam and trika contains same alprazolam so there is no great difference in two medications as far as side effects are concerned.
I hope this helps you.
