Is THS Value Of 0.013 A Cause For Concern?

Question: My mother has a thyroid condition. Her current (THS?) number is 0.013. It is my understanding that this is much too low. Her doctor continues to lower the dosage which seems wrong. Today we were told to discontinue the medication for 5 days, then begin a much lower dosage. I am concerned that if that plan is followed she will become comatose.
Brief Answer:
Which thyroid condition. Hyper or Hypothyroidism
Detailed Answer:
Good day.
Noted your concern. it is very important to know what type of thyroid condition she has. Did she have hypothyroidism (under active thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid). TSH of 0.013 is low and there is no doubt about it. We need to modify medicines to keep TSH in normal range. at the same time please be aware that TSH once suppressed,,can take several weeks to few months to normalise. May I know what medicines she were ( are) using.

She was diagnosed with hypothyroidism by her primary care physician. She had been taking Levothyroxine Sodium 112 mcg. Last year she was prescribed to alternate between the 112 mcg and the 100 mcg. Earlier this year it was reduced to 100 mcg. Early last month it was reduced to 88 mcg. Today we were told to take her off the medication for five days then begin taking 50 mcg. This scares me.
Brief Answer:
LIKELY AN EPISODE OF HASHIMOTOS THYROIDITIS.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the reply. Not to worry. episodes of thyroiditis is common during the course of hypothyroidism. In those situations the TSH tend to drop and FT4 rises. These episodes may last for few months we need to reduce the dose of levothyroxine. However please remember that,,in most people the TSH start to rise with in few months and the dose of levothyroxine will have to be increased again. Hence it is logical to stop levothyroxine for few days and start with a small dose. But please keep a track of TSH and Free T4. keep doing it every 2 months till levels stabilise.
