Is TSH Level Of 2.72 A Cause For Concern?

Question: Hi Doctor,
My wife was diagnosed with thyroid on Feb 3rd and her blood report showed .. TSH - 7.21. She took thyronorm tablet 50mc. After 6 weeks she did blood test again on 20th March 2017 and report showed TSH 2.72. Kindly suggest if she needs to stop taking the thyronorm tablet or should she continue the same tablet.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Continue medications unless she has symptoms...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If she has no symptoms of thyroid over activity such as palpitation, excessive sweating, anxiety, restlessness and so on, I would continue thyronorm tablet. Recheck TSH value after say another 4 weeks. We may decide the future of treatment based on future TSH value.
However, if she has any of the listed symptoms, thyronorm should be stopped.
It is advisable to keep TSH value between 2.5 to 3.5. Hence you need not be overly concerned at this point.
Hope I am clear. Let me know if you have any questions.
