Is TSH Level Of 8.2 A Cause For Concern?

Hold on..you dont need the thyroid medications at present.
Detailed Answer:
Just having elevated TSH with normal T4 is not an indication for starting thyroid tablets. This is a very common mistake that General physicians make. What you are most likely having is what is known as SUBCLINICAL HYPOTHYROIDISM. This is a condition which increases your risk of having hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).
But like I said, as yet you only seem to have subclinical hypothyroidism with TSH of 8 . Starting thyroid medications is not harmful but most patients end up taking these medications for lobg time without having any indications for starting it in the first place.
The indications of treating subclinical hypothyroidism are
1. If TSH is more than 10
2. If anti TPO antibody are positive.
My advice is
1. Dont start the thyroid medications yet
2. Get done a complete thyroid profile (Free T4, T3 and TSH)
3. Get done Anti TPO antibody
Revert back to us once you have these reports.
Good luck

Hair-fall may be related, however other causes also need to be considered.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Hair fall is often associated with underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). However, like I said, it seems likely that you have 'Subclinical hypothyroidism' which means you have not developed the thyroid problem as yet but may develop it in future. Hence, the hair fall may not be related to the thyroid problem alone.
Deficiency in iron, vitamins and micronutrients are well known to cause hair fall. Also, hair fall is common in males above age of 30 years because of testosterone. I would advice you to take some multivitamin supplements which would help you with your hair fall.
