Is Tizanidine An Opioid?

Question: Is Tizanidine an Opiod? My new pain mgmt. Dr. XXXXXXX DC the muscle relaxer listed here is a problem as a result of the opiod crisis I do not agree but am doing the homework to double check. I know other patients that use a Chiropractor for pain mgmt. and they have not discontinued the Tizanidine. Thank you for your time in this matter.

Wow, the confusion is that drugs that work like it are used in narcotic addiction have the same actions as tizanidine. Both block part of the brain that is used to stimulate stress hormones. This blocks some of the withdrawal symptoms of narcotics. It also has non-zero effects on lowering pain. It also has withdrawal, but the withdrawal is different than that from narcotics. Since there is a withdrawal syndrome from stopping it suddenly, tizanidine mighht not be the favourite drug to use. But it is in no way a narcotic.
