Is Topiramate Effective In Weight Loss Treatment While On Amisulpride And Escitalopram?
Question: Hi, Iam using Amisulpride 50mg and Escitalopram 10mg since 2 years for my health anxiety and found to have significant improvement. But I have seen weight gain after having these tablets. A doctor told me to continue Amisulpride 50mg and Escitalopram 10mg for 2 more months and additionally have Topiramate 25mg for 2 months for weight loss. My question is how safe is Topiramate 25mg for 2 months usage ? Will it effect the brain and cause drowsiness all through the day ? Is Topiramate 25mg really effective for weight loss ? Will Topiramate increase the risk of Glaucoma (since my father has Glaucoma) ?

Thanks for the prompt response. I would also like to know if Topiramate has withdrawal symptoms after using it for 2 months and then stop ? Does it cause any damage of the central nervous system on prolonged usage?

Topiramate if stopped after regular use can cause withdrawal symptoms so should not be stopped abruptly. Better to reduce the doses gradually over 4 weeks and this dose reduction would not cause withdrawal symptoms.
The drug doesn't cause CNS damage on prolonged use. In some individuals cognitive decline was reported in some studies. But in my clinic I haven't reported any such side effect.
