Is Venlafaxine A Suitable Substitute For Pristiq And If So, What Dosage Would Be Appropriate?
Question: Hello -- I had to travel internationally (XXXX) unexpectedly due to my father-in-laws death. I have been taking 50 mg Pristiq for nearly a year, but Pristiq is not available here. I can get venlafaxine in the pharmacy and was told that I could possibly substitute that for Pristiq until I am able to get back home to refill my Pristiq prescription. Two questions -- is that a good substititute for Pristiq and second what would be the equivalent dosage (they gave me a box of 37.5mg tablets here)?
Brief Answer:
Go with 37.5mg daily of Desvenlafaxine!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Pristiq is Desvenlafaxine and the substitute of Velanfaxine. These are drugs in the same class and certainly one can be used in the place of another. Because you are on the minimum dose of Pristiq, switch to minimum dose of Venlafaxine which is 37.5mg.
My condolences for the passing on of your father in law. Hope I have answered your query. I wish you well.
Thank you.
