Is Viagra Advisable When On Atorvastatin And Finasteride?
Question: I am a 69 year old male with health hx of cardiac bypass 10 years ago and insulin dependent diabetes. I recently discussed with my PCP at Veterans Admin that I wanted to take Viagra. He took me off Isosorbide and gave me a script for 2 Viagra 25 mg. pills for a month with instruction I could halve the pills. I weaned off the Isosorbide and have been off now for 3 days. The doctor gave me nothing to replace the Isosorbide. Should I feel safe in taking the Viagra with my health hx and list of meds attached ( Isorsorbide is not on the list any longer). I even considered cutting the Viagra in quarters as I am nervous about taking it since I was on the Isorsorbide so long. I have had no chest pain since coming off the Isosorbide and had none prior. 2. Atorvastatin Calcium 20 MG Tab take one-Half Tablet by mouth at bedtime for Cholesterol

4. Calcium 600 MG/vitamin D 400 Unit Tab Take 1 tablet by mouth twice a day

7. HydrALAZINE HCL 50MG Tab take two tablets by mouth every 8 hours for high blood Pressure
8. Insulin, Aspart, ZHuman Inj 25 units under skin three times daily before meals and insulin coverage for blood sugarz: 150 – 200 Add 2 units; 201 – 250 Add 4 Units; 251 – 300 Add 6 Units; 301 – 350 Add 8 Units; 351 – 400 Add 10 Units

10. Magnesium Oxide 400 MG Tab Take one tablet by mouth every 48 hours for supplement
11. Metoprolol Tartrate 100 MG Tab Take one tablet by mouth twice a day for heart/Blood pressure
12. MetFORMIN HCL 1000 MG Tab take one tablet by mouth twice a day with meal for blood sugar (Diabetes)
13. Omeprazole 20 MG EC Cap Take Two capsules by mouth every day for the stomach. Take Before a Meal.
14. Terazosin HCL 2 MG Cap Take one capsule by mouth every day

Generally your medications are well tolerated and no serious interactions have been noted when taken concomitantly with Viagra, except the following:
(1) Viagra when used concomitantly with Atorvastatin, may increase toxicity of Atorvastatin leading to increased risk of myopathy. So, I would recommend to avoid Atorvastatin when using Viagra.
(2) Metoprolol may increase blood level and effect of Viagra (by decreasing its hepatic clearance by around 35%). so, a close monitoring is necessary when used concomitantly. A reduction od Viagra dose is recommended.
(3) Viagra may increase the effect of Terazosin, leading to dangerous hypotension. It is recommended to take Viagra >25 mg at least 4 hours apart from Terazosin.
