Question: Hi I am 42 and my menstrual cycle has started going haywire, my cycle is normally 27 days, bleeding 3-4 days, December and January only bled 2 days, I missed it in February, spotted for 10 days in March, started spotting again this month only to end up bleeding for days, not flooding, just like a normal period for me. I think I am perimenopausal. Started taking Vitex three days ago, I was taking 400mg X3 per day, is this correct for my symptoms or should I be taking a lesser dose?
Brief Answer:
Vitex will not decrease bleeding much.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Vitex is given to enhance your general well being. It is not likely to correct your hormonal imbalance or decrease the amount of bleeding that you are having.
If you are not having a heavy bleeding - less than 3 pads per day and the bleeding is there for less than 7 days then you can wait for the bleeding to stop spontaneously. You can continue taking Vitex thrice daily. But if the bleeding is heavier then it is best to consult your gynecologist for hormonal tablets and homeostatic agents to decrease the bleeding.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

I'm not that keen on taking artificial hormonal tablets, is there anything natural I can try first? I will go and see the doctor if it isn't going to stop in the next couple of days.
Brief Answer:
Remedies mentioned below.

Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
You can take Parsley juice or take 1-2 tablespoons of gooseberry juice with honey on an empty stomach to decrease the bleeding.
Taking one cooked banana flower with a cup of fresh yogurt will help in increasing your progesterone levels naturally thus decreasing the bleeding.
