Is A 39 Cc Prostate Volume Healthy?
Question: Is a 39 cc prostate volume healthy for a 49 years old man?
Brief Answer:
Transrectal USG, PSA, PSA density, PSA doubling time
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
It is borderline. It has to be assessed alongwith the symptoms and some other tests.
The prostatic health can be assessed by parameters like digital examination of prostate, transrectal ultrasound of the prostate, prostatic specific antigen (PSA) levels, PSA density and PSA doubling time.
These parameters are compared with the volume of prostate and age of the patient.
Thus, you need to get PSA levels and assess the increase in PSA levels over a period of time to get the value of PSA doubling time.
You can consult your urologist for these investigations.
Thanks and take care

As of July 2014 the PSA level was 2.15 while for 39 cc makes a PSA density of 2.15/39.0 = 0.055. Is it a good value?
Thank you!
Thank you!
Brief Answer:
PSA and PSA density are within normal limits
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
The PSA value of less than 4 ng/ml is normal.
The PSA density value of more than 0.15 indicates possibility of prostatic carcinoma.
Your PSA value and PSA density is within normal limits.
Thus, on the basis of these values, your prostate is in good health.
