Question: hello doctor i have a question i had unprotected sex 3 months ago and i used oraquick to test for hiv twice after 2 months and 2 weeks and it tested negative and i recently got tested for stds like syphilis and other stuff and also tested negative my question is can i still have HIV or stds after 3 months even thought i got tested?
Brief Answer:
HIV test @3rd month of exposure is required
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question .
I am Dr Matin and will be answering your queries.
As far as chances of getting STDs ,their acquisition is unlikely in this scenario.
For HIV the chances are extremely low after 3 months of exposure.
It is to be understood that HIV tests pick up 97 % of positive cases at the end of 1 month and 99.7% of positive cases at the end of 3 months, so the protocol is to test at baseline and after 3 months of exposure
I guess ,you will be required to go for the HIV test at the end of 3 months of exposure, to be absolutely sure of your status .
Hope this helps.
