Is A Cystogram Advisable While Recovering From UTI Infection?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Mar 2017
Question: I have had a bad uti for about 3 weeks. Been on antibiotics up until 5 days ago. Dr insisted I have a CT scan because not a lot of bacteria in urine cultures. The scan was all normal even said kidneys and bladder was unremarkable. Now she want to do a cystogram if my urine test comes back with microscopic blood. Do you think that is necessary???

Brief Answer:
In view of C.T Scan being normal ,No need to do Cystogram.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .You have not mentioned your gender and age in your query which is equally important to make comments on your problem .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) What is your age
2) Are you elderly female above 50 years of age ?
3) Do you have urinary symptoms symptoms like frequency, burning ,urgency ,blood in urine etc ?
4) Will you upload your urine culture report ?
5) Has your problem resolved after taking antibiotics ?
6) Are you being treated by Urologist ?

You have been treated for UTI with appropriate antibiotic as per culture report for 2 weeks .

In view of your C.T Scan being normal I fail to understand the reason for doing Cystogram.

I would suggest you to discuss the rationale behind doing Cystogram and what she is suspecting you to have.

Please do write about information I have asked for .It will help me in making precise comments and suggestions on your problem .

Thanks and Regards.

I am a female 56 years old. My symptoms are about 90 percent gone. No burning when urinating, no visible blood when urinating. I have a little incontinence when sneezing and little at night while sleeping .. Doing kegels. Not seeing a urologist , my internist. She said the reason for Cystogram to see if any abnormalities in bladder. Wouldn't a CT scan do that??
