Brief Answer:
Hemoglobin levels

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned about your Hgb level at 15.2. This is at the high normal range. This can be artificially elevated if your are dehydrated at the time of the blood draw or if you are a smoker. Despite it being normal high this is still normal and nothing to be concerned about. It only becomes a problem when the Hgb gets above 18 and then it may cause sludging in the arteries. You have not concerns about that happening here. Again I think your doctor is right in saying your Hgb is normal

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions

is it better to have a hemoglobin of 12 or 15? When I was breastfeeding, mine was 12.2, but I do remember a reading of 14.8 in the past. I am not a smoker and the doctor said I am doing great. I do worry a lot though. Can hemoglobin levels fluctuate? If so, how frequently? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Hemoglobin levels

Detailed Answer:
There is only a normal range. A hgb of 12 is just as good as one at 15. There is usually a lot of lab variance and it can be the reason you see such a fluctuation. I can reassure you that you are completely normal. There is absolutely nothing here to be concerned about. you only need to have your Hgb levels checked once yearly

I hope that relieves your anxiety.
