Is A Negative HIV Rapid Test On The 30th Day Conclusive?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Dec 2014
Question: Hello doctor ,
I had already spoken to dr.Bharatesh regarding my risk of contacting hiv/std from an protected encounter with a sex worker. Just to make if clear , it happened on october 7th . It was for 2-3mins and protected. A little vaginal fluid touched the head of my penis while removing the condom. I just wiped it with a tissue and washed it only after 15mins. This is the first time something like this has happened. My medical records were clean till before the incident. I am really worried about contacting hiv. I did a hiv rapid test on the 30th day which was negative and Hiv1pcr rna rest on the 30th day which came not detected. I have attached the results here. Please let me know what i should do doctor. This incident is killing me. I want to know if i am safe? What are the chances of contacting hiv2? The pcr test that i have done only checks for hiv1 rna. I am really worried doctor! Please help! Awaiting your reply. Do i need any other tests? Or should i leave everything and move on with life? Just want to know if i am 100%safe . When and What are the test that i should do if any to rule out everything?

Brief Answer:
no risk of HIV .antibody test after 3 months .

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query.I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
I have gone through the details and reports.

I can understand your anxiety with regard to this disease.
There is no risk of HIV as you had a protected intercourse.
HIV RNA Pcr is negative. Yes it detects only hiv1. But the most common is hiv1,and hiv 2 is rare. So we usually cannot tell 100% sure of negativity.

Antibodies can take 3 months to be formed. So the test for antibodies can be conclusive after 3 months.
As your risk is nil.you need not worry.
You can go for antibody test after 3 months of exposure just to relieve your anxiety.

You can get back for any clarification

Hello doctor, i have attached a proper photo of the rash. It is not itching. It looks like dry skin. But that patch has been there for the past 3weeks.
Do you think that i should get screened for all std's? I have decided to do a elisa test after 2months along with vdrl. Will these tests be conclusive? I will not require any further testing rite? When should i screen for sts ? Is there a window period or something? And as far as my hiv1 results is concerned , its is completely ruled out rite? And lastly what are the chances that i might have hiv2? Thanks for all the support and guidance doctor!

Brief Answer:
Elisa for HIV, vdrl, hepatitis b after 2 months

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
I have seen single photo of hand rash.it is likely to be due to dryness and is not related to HIV.
You can use gentle moisturizing soap of your choice (Mostly use mild soap like baby soap or dove). Apply moisturizer creams after bath and at night.
HIV-1 is negative as by pcr test. so you can allay fears. Hiv2 is very rarer possibility.
You can go for Elisa HIV, hepatitis B and vdrl after 2 months from now to allay all your fears and anxiety .
After 3 months from exposure you need not worry of window period. it is conclusive for both hiv1 &2. also for syphilis. Hope you do not have any other exposure.
You can get back for any clarification
Thank you
