Question: I was recently diagnosed with Mitral Valve prolapse ( posterior leaflet) with severe regurgitation after a routine 6 month visit to the doctor for a repeat prescription for Amlodipine 5 mg daily. I am 75 years of age have been taking this for years, have BMI of 24, was exercising regularly with High Intensity training on exercise bike. My resting pulse is between 47 and 53 is that beneficial? I am away from home at the moment and due to see a Cardiologist at the end of Feb when I return home

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Since you exercise regularly ( a trained people) your resting heart is between 47-53 bpm. Such a finding is normal for trained people and you shouldn't worry.

Moreover these findings are of help in preventing acute heart failure and worsening of your symptoms.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

I did read that Bradycardia can cause overreach of LV , I interpret that to mean the slower pulse will cause greater filling of the LV during diastole and on systole potentially lead to greater regurgitation during systole ?

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Bradycardia will cause a better left ventricle functioning. This will help to relieve your symptoms. The contrary is true in many patients the symptoms and heart functioning will become worse with tachycardia.

This is why you shouldn't worry about.
