Is A Small Pimple On The Arm A Symptom Of Bug Bite?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Aug 2016
Question: Hi I noticed this on the back of my arm and I thought it was just a pimple, but it was a weird place to get one. Do you think its a bug bite of some kind? I only first noticed it yesterday but today it has a red circle around it and I havent even touched it at all.

Brief Answer:
It is an infected hair follicle, careful pulling of the hair will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr XXXXXXX

Thanks for the query, I have seen the attached image.

It is quite similar to a pimple, but not exactly a pimple. There is an abscess formed in the hair follicle (folliculitis), and there is pus point. In such cases, carefully pulling out the hair will result in opening up of the abscess and the pus will drain out, but mind you, it will be painful.

Other option is to visit your primary care physician/GP and get it drained.

You will need to apply local antibiotic creams and might also have to take a course of antibiotics. Please visit your doctor and discuss the same.

Hope this answers your query, please feel free to write back if you have any more questions for me.

Best regards
