Is Alcohol Advisable While On Brentuximab Vedotin?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Aug 2016
Question: I have Reafractory Hodgkins Lymphoma and am being treated with Adcetris (Brentuximab Vedotin). Ive read that alcohol should be kept to a minimum or avoided completely. Can I drink a glass of wine, or 2? I dont want to do anything that could possibly compromise the treatment. I am a 27 year old female.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

It sounds like your oncologist is treating you with a excellent medication that has been approved for refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma. I am hopeful and optimistic that this treatment will work very well to get your disease under control.

Regarding consumption of alcohol you should discuss this with your oncologist. A single glass of wine on rare occasion would not be unreasonable. Your doctor may agree but as with any decision occurring during the course of therapy you should review it with your doctor to make sure you're both on the same page.

An occasional glass of wine would not likely cause significant side effects or affect the course of your treatment. Again this should be reviewed with your oncologist for definitive recommendations.

thank you again for sending your question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
