Is Alcohol Intake After Viral Hepatitis Harmful?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: I was successfully treated for Hep C. Can I continue to drink?
Brief Answer:
Explained
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome
I appreciate your concern
The new treatment with ribavirin , sofosbuvir / ledispavir and other new agents have revolutionised the Hepatitis C treatment providing SVR (sustained virological response) or cure in over 90 percent of patients depending upon the genotype.
Although you are hep C free, I would advise against consuming alcohol as it has known hepatotoxic effects.
If you want to continue it, then I would suggest you minimize it as much as possible. Try following a timetable such as a weekly routine eg a drink or 2 every Friday.
Wishing you best of health
Thanks
