Is An HIV Test Conducted At 22 Days Post Exposure Conclusive?
I have had the result of the HIV P24 Ag&Abs (HIV combo), tested on the 22day of exposure As per Dr. XXXXXXX advice. The result is non reactive as same as the result obtained after 12 days I had earlier.
What do you think?
You are free from HIV 1 infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
HIV Combo test is the 4th generation test and highly reliable. It has two components (Combo).
Those are :
one is P24 antigen part . This will become conclusive by 3 weeks after the high risk activity. Whereas it usually includes only HIV 1 antigen which is the most common HIV infection (almost 100%).
The 2nd part of test is detecting the Antibodies against both HIV 1 and HIV 2. This will be detected only after the completion of window period (that is 8-12 weeks after exposure) as the antibodies start appearing only after 8-12 weeks.
So a negative Combo test at 22 days after the high risk exposure assures you that you free from HIV 1.
HIV 2 is yet to be ruled out after 12 weeks by repeating the test.
But the chances of HIV 2 infection is less than 1% only in the whole world other than in XXXXXXX

Thank you for your reply.
Please advise which test should I have after 3 month to close this issue forever.
Also is there any comforting test can be done after 2 month?
Thank you
Any antibody test after 12 weeks equally effective
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
No comfortable test is necessary at 2 months. It would not comfort you in any way as it would not be conclusive.
Any rapid test, ELISA, EIA or a Combo test is equally good and reliable and conclusive by 12 weeks.
Just wait for few more days to get a more conclusive result. Your type of sexual act carries a negligible risk for HIV.
