Is An Elevated Total Bilirubin Value Of 1.5 A Cause For Concern?
Question: My husband age 70 who is on Lipitor, healthy Filipino male with normal BMI, waist to height ratio normal with hyperlipidemia. He had a recent test which showed normal liver enzymes(ALT,SGOT, SGPT) but elevated total bilirubin of 1.5. The Cardiovascular physician told him it was probably something metabolic. His FBS, TSH, CBC & Diff are all normal. Physically he has muscle weakness and fatigue despite being a hiker, walker, and biker. He is now 5'9", wt., 145, waist is now 34. He's also a retired Anesthesiologist ( practiced 1970-2010). XXXXXXX de la Fuente NP
Brief Answer:
Further tests are needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,
I understand your concern.
The elevated bilirubin in your husband case need further evaluation in the form of serum LDH ,Serum haptoglobin and peripheral blood smear.
Most likely this rise is directly related to the tumour metastasis.
Further management is based on test results.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
