Question: I am a 62 year old male.....in generally decent health. I have type 2 diabetes for about 6 years, but is pretty well controlled ( last a1c was 6.0 ). I have a small pimple on the nipple of my left breast and am concerned this could be breast cancer ( my sister died of the disease at 33 years old ). there appear to be no lumps upon self exam but some itchiness for the last several days. the pimple has been present for some time ( I'm guessing months ) any advice?
Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be breast cancer but get it examined!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this pimple that you are having. I understand your concerns about breast cancer and more so because your sister died of this disease. However, the information you have provided is not suggestive of breast cancer in any way. But for the fact that this pimple is on the breast, there is no other element that can make me to have a high suspicion for this being a form of breast cancer. I do not know for sure what this is unless I some more information.
Breast cancer develops from breast tissue. A pimple originates from the skin and subcutaneous tissue and not the breast. Because it does not originate from breast tissue itself, labeling it a possible breast cancer would be unlikely. What I am certain of is an abnormality located on the breast and not from the breast tissue itself.
Because the description doesn't give the exact cause, I will suggest that you get examined for this pimple so as to pinpoint the cause and make a clear distinction between it and breast cancer so that you can put your mindset at ease on the fears of a possible breast cancer.
I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well and feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be. Thanks for using our services.
