Is Applying Disinfectant On Facial Skin During Pregnancy Safe?
Question: Hi Doctor, I am 6 weeks pregnant, and my first visit with OB is in 5 weeks, I did something stupid, I went to the facial yesterday and I told her that I'm pregnant, so she said everything going to ne super mild, after cleansing my face (it was very gentle) she use high frequency disinfectant on my face for like 2 minutes and when I freaked out she said it is absolutely safe, also I was lying on a heated bet with a blanket on me, but when I googled it most articles suggest its not safe for the baby and ma cause Neural Tube Defects, now I don't know what do to, I want to deliver a healthy baby and I am morally ok with terminating the pregnancy if the risk is high.

Application of disinfectant on the facial skin has only a local effect on the skin. It does not penetrate inside and reach the blood circulation to affect the baby. Since the contact time was also less than 5 minutes there is no need to worry.
There is no definitive evidence that a local use of high frequency disinfectant on face causes a neural tube defect in the baby. You need not worry. Continue taking folic acid supplements and pre natal vitamins as suggested by your gynecologist.

Thanks Doctor for our response, I also wanted to know was the heated bed was bad for m baby, as I read the core temperature shouldn't go up during the pregnancy.
