Is Are There Any Anti-anxiety Medicine That Have Limited Side Effects While On Xanax Only When Absolutely Necessary?
Question: Hello,
I have always had generalized anxiety that comes and goes throughout my life. I have had some pretty bad episodes of health anxiety about every five years. Recently I have had some minor things with my health that have put me in a tailspin of worrying. I realize most is irratinal but I am an over thinking, think of the worst case scenario and work my self in full blown panic attack.
I have tried different anti-anxiety meds with headaches and mouth sores as side effects. I couldn’t take the side effects so I stopped. Currently I take Xanax as needed.
My quesriioin l is are there any anti anxiety meds that have limited side effects? Since I have health anxiety I worry what these meds are doing to my body and liver.
I have tried Leprexo and Effexor. Can you recommend anything?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.
Xanax is the most dangerous anti-anxiety medication that exists. It is addictive, causes memory loss, falls, fractures, and results in rebound anxiety, so I would recommend a change. The standard and best treatment of anxiety is a combination of an SSRI medication (Zoloft, Prozac) with cognitive behavioral therapy. I recommend this combination treatment for you.
