Question: Is baby born at 31 weeks very premature ? My baby was born at 31 wks weighing 3.7 lbs

Babies born before 28 weeks of gestation are very premature ( VLBW ).Babies born between 30-32 weeks are premature but there future prognosis is very good now a days ( especially if they don't require surfactant and ventilator care ).3.7 lb is good weight at 32 weeks.

If she didn't require ventilator and if her NICU STAY was uneventful then most probably she will not lag in development. But still we monitor preterms for development, hearing ,ROP to pick up defects early
