Fresh bleed is because of the break in the engorged tiny blood vessels...

Hi
Thanks for posting the query
The symptoms described by you could be the features of sinusitis. The XXXXXXX blood tinged mucus is a normal finding. During an attack of sinusitis or Upper respiratory tract infection, the nasal mucosa gets congested. Congested mucosa contains engorged blood vessels. When you try to clear the nose or throat, the tiny engorged blood vessels breaks off, thus staining the mucus.
Do not worry! This is perfectly normal. My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water. Hydration keeps the nasal mucosa moist.
2. Do steam inhalation 2-3 times a day, for 2 minutes. This will decongest the nasal mucosa and thus prevent the nasal bleed.
3. Use saline nasal spray as and when required. Saline maintains the normal pH of the nose and prevents the mucus formation and bleeding.
4. Avoid chilled food and beverages, coffee and smoking (if any).
Hope this answers your query; revert back to me if you have any follow up queries.
