Is Blood Pressure Value Of 130/96 A Cause For Concern?
Please find details below
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. Blood pressure is to be measured for 3 consecutive days at the same time of the day using the same machine and by the same person after 30 minutes of physical and mental rest. If the blood pressure reading is persistently above 140/ 90 mm Hg then it is confirmed as high blood pressure.
2. Your doctor might have examined you at rest and confirmed your blood pressure as high.
3. Stamlo 5 is amlodipine and classified as calcium channel blocker. This medicine lowers high blood pressure. Some patients might experience leg swelling as a side effect and if you have swelling of feet, knees and legs then please consult your doctor for change of medicine. Please continue taking medicine under supervision of your doctor.
4. Please also try to reduce extra salt in diet and this will also help control your blood pressure.
5. Doing yoga for 30 minutes every day will also help to reduce your stress level.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
Yesterday my physician has checked it around 10.40 Am and BP is around 140/104 and today checked around 10.40-10.45 with the same machine and BP is 130/96 .I am getting a good sleep and do not bogged down any tension. There is no such type of symtom like headche at back of my head .Hence little bit sceptic in tsking stamlo-5 (5 mg). Suppose I start taking this then whether the chemical changes happened due to this will force me to take this medicine life long .Also suggest work around in diet which will control high Bp apart from walking and doing yoga
Please follow strict diet and check blood pressure after a month again

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. The blood pressure is not too high and you might try to make lifestyle changes and get your blood pressure checked again after a month.
2. If the blood pressure is still high after one month then you should take medicine and start with low dose.
3. For next one month please avoid taking extra salt in food. Follow simple diet like the one given below.
Early Morning
A cup of tea/ milk with 2 biscuits of your choice
Breakfast
2 parathas with curd or 2 plain rotis with paneer or 2 idlis with chutney/sambhar or 1 bowl of upma or oats and one egg occasionally
Mid morning
Soup or a whole fruit (apple or guava)
Lunch
Salad with rotis (2 to 3) or rice (1 bowl) with dal/ sambhar and a cup of vegetable. Occasionally you can add some light fries in lunch. You can add two vegetables every day or non veg two pieces twice weekly.
Afternoon
Tea/ juice with 2 biscuits
Dinner
Same as in lunch with slight variation. Dinner should be lighter than lunch
Milk after dinner
4. Do 30 minutes of yoga every day in the morning.
5. Even if your blood pressure becomes normal after one month, then also you should get blood pressure checked regularly. You can buy a blood pressure recording electronic machine at home and use it for this purpose.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
