Is Bright Red Blood In Semen A Serious Concern?

My 48 year old husband recently discoverd bright red blood in his sperm. He had a PSA test which came back totally normal. He can't get in to see a urologist until mid-July. We are quite worried in the meantime.
Thanks for any info you can give us.
different possible causes
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
In the majority of persons it is not related to a serious cause, in most persons it is self limited (lasting 1 to 2 months).
The cause may not be found in many persons either.
Some of the more common causes include-
(1) Conditions of the prostate such as an infection. The PSA he would have done would rule out cancer or enlarged prostate.
(2)Urethra-----this is a tube that leads from the bladder, runs through the prostate and penis.
Infection of the urethra can cause bleeding
Stones, cysts or benign growths of the urethra can also cause this symptom
(3)disorders of the seminal vesicles. The seminal vesicles are glands that play a big role in making semen.
Cysts of these areas can cause blood in the semen
(4)trauma
(5) it is also more common in persons with systemic conditions such as high blood pressure, kidney disease
Urinalysis or culture is the first line of testing.
Imaging by ultrasound can also rule out any structural lesions
As mentioned earlier, in many persons, the cause is not serious or found but he can see his urologist for assessment.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
