Is Brown/dark Orange Color Morning Urine Just The Coca-Cola From Last Night Or Dehydration?

Question: Hi, last night all I had to drink was 1.5L coca cola. in the morning my urine was a brown/dark orange colour. Is this just Coca-Cola, or dehydration? I'm only concerned because I only have one kidney and I very occasionally get a pain in my back

I understand your concern. First of all I strongly recommend you refrain from consuming any kind of soda. Given your condition, this kind of drinks can lead to a serious medical condition.

Regarding your current problem, the change in urine color, it could very possibly be due to dehydration (cola contains caffeine and caffeine is a diuretic), but also due to colorants in the soda.

I recommend you see a doctor and do a urine test as soon as possible.

I was also wondering about the occasional back pain. It's only in the left side in the middle, when it happens, I can feel it more when I lay back and breathe. I'm unsure which side my kidney is on, but I think its the left side

It is hard to say for sure without a physical examination, but I recommend that beside the urine test you also have an ultrasound of the kidney to check for changes or abnormalities. Given your single kidney status, these two tests should be routinely performed.
