Brief Answer:
not hereditary

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Bursitis is not hereditary, meaning that there is no direct genetic cause for this condition. It is usually due to stress and strain on joints. Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa which is a protective pad full of fluids for cushioning joints.
While bursitis is not strictly speaking a hereditary disease, it is possible that you could inherit a specific joint anatomy that might predispose you to bursitis.
It is not clear why some people get bursitis and others do not but if the steroid injections did not help you then physical therapy is probably your most likely way to get some relief.
I hope you are feeling better soon,
Dr. Robinson
